they found 20- pounds of this ammonium, a chemical used to make explosives. this is the bomb squad. they said they cannot deal with this type of situation and they called in the atf instead and these two separate scenes. it wasn't just chemicals found in the upland court. the bodies of two women overnight. the police say it was a grisly scene. this is the home of 67-year-old dena allen. allen and her friend, carol smarkt, have been missing since wednesday. this is also a home where suspected killer efren valdemoro was known to say, sometimes trying to pass himself off as allen's son. here's where the story takes another turn -- police say the bodies of these two women had been in this home for a while and apparently during that time, allen husband, who reported her missing, had been living in the home. so he's been arrested and is in custody at this hour. how is this all connected to valdemoro? well, that's still unclear. police say all of this may not be connected to the hercules case in which valdemoro is suspected of killing an elderly man on friday. that man's son is still missing. if we

. ktvu's kraig debro joins us live from pittsburg with details. >> reporter: good morning. recovery and search teams will not be using the cadaverrer dogs that are used to find bodies so many times. they say there's too much of an area and too many smells. frederick sales has been missing and they believe he's in the keller canyon area since then. >> they may have had a piece of letterhead with a hercules letter on it. but that's it. >> reporter: search crews, three police officers and volunteers are looking for a body, and not a survivor. police say frederick sales was brought her unknowingly for bringing him -- unknowingly by trash garbage. it's believed valdamoro stole an escalade from one of the vallejo woman and used it to put frederick sales's body in a dumpster where he used to work. >> the business park is also in close proximity to the crepe myrtle residence where the older sales was found. >> reporter: police say the home's owned by the suspect's girlfriend. the saleses and another woman rented rooms from the owner. police say valdamoro was jealous of cindy tran, his girlf

where that escalade is. kris sanchez joins us live from richmond this morning, where police gunned the suspect down. kris, how are officers really trying to untangle this web of crime? >> you know, it's difficult. they're trying to make sure they stay in constant communication with all of the different agencies, five of them in all, that are investigating this case. you mentioned that white escalade. that is still missing and is at large. but we do know that the vehicle that the suspect was in last night was crashed right into the front of this 99 ranch market here in richmond. inside that vehicle, another gruesome finding. chp officers found the body of a young asian woman. they checked for a pulse, there was no pulse, and at that point, it looked like she was beyond help. they say it looks like she was badly beaten and strangled. likely, that is the cause of death. chp officers are not releasing her name right now, but they do say that they believe she was the girlfriend of the suspect, efren valdemoro. now officers say that he crashed his car here after leading chp officers on t

, they were inside the building, brought them out, then used a charge to disrupt the device. not make the device explode, but make it so it cannot explode. and that is done with a little bit of a detonation on the part of the bomb squad. so that's what's been going on tonight. it's going to be quite a while before they get this scene clear. but this all started at 1:00 this afternoon when this man by the name of james lee, well known to the people here at discovery as a long-time protester, showed up in the lobby. what james j. lee might not have known during his four-hour siege of the discovery channel building was that for the entire time, police had him literally in their sights. when just before 5:00 he appeared to threaten a hostage, a police sniper pulled his trigger. >> he pulled out the handgun that he came in with, pointed it at one of the hostages. it's unconfirmed now whether he actually fired the weapon or not. but at that point, our tactical units moved in. they shot the suspect. the suspect is deceased. >> reporter: the beginning of the standoff at

is near the crash senior with the very latest for us. vic? >> eric, the recovery team is here ready to begin operations to remove the bodies and the wreckage from the waters of the lagoon. they are meeting now, making final plans. you can see their boat which is ready to be launched on that dock behind me. the plane is actually on the other side of this lagoon. there are two bodies believed to be inside the wreckage of the plane. they are robert boreman, owner of the twin engine beech 65 queen air. he's the president of a local steel company and a decorated pilot during world war ii. the other person is his pilot who is name has not been released, the body of a passenger believed to be his girlfriend was retrieved from the waters yesterday. her name also has not been released. it was airborne only about 30 seconds before crashing sometime around noon yesterday after taking off from san carlos airport which is about a mile from here. horrified witnesses say the plane began spiralling to the right and it headed straight down into the water narrowly missing one of the buildings here by

found two bodies there. they are telling us those bodies were chopped up. they are believed to be the women who had not been seen since wednesday. he had apparently either stayed at the home as a tenant or guest and there is another missing person connected to this case. 35-year-old frederick salis is the son of 73-year-old ricardo salis of hercules. he was found beaten to death in his home saturday allegedly by valdemoro. we have a reporter headed to vallejo and we'll have more on this story at 5:30. >>> in other news the condition of fremont police officer shot in oakland last week has improved after another surgery. yesterday's surgery on 39-year- old todd young was successful. his condition upgraded to serious but stable. the shooting suspect is still in jail in san diego. that is 20-year-old andrew barrientos. he is now charged with attempted murder. he is expected to be arraigned in alameda county next tuesday. >>> we are starting the third month without a state budget. lawmakers ended their session last night after debating two budget plans. governor schwarzenegger sa
